Portfolio Visualization: Maximizing Value, Minimizing Risk
Successfully managing a large portfolio of assets requires deep understanding of complex, dynamic, multi-dimensional fundamental, analytical and market data. Dashboards are just the tip of the iceberg. Our rich, interactive visualization applications have enabled analysts to rapidly gain deeper insights by exploring current holdings, historical performance, and on-the-fly what-if scenarios, helping them generate higher returns. Oculus has created portfolio visualizations for capital markets, retail banking, pharmaceuticals, and other industries.

Breakthrough Financial Market Intelligence
This is a new level of market overview. I am quickly informed on exactly what I need. The system is instantly usable. – Equities Trader
In this project for a leading client, Oculus created a hierarchical heatmap of the financial markets that provides high level, intermediate and detailed summaries in an intuitive display of market activity. Unlike traditional heat map approaches which are devoid of intermediate level summaries and often confuse viewers by the nature of their layout, this highly effective technique organizes and aggregates information in a manner that traders and portfolio managers intuitively understand and can act on at a glance.
“What If” Global Risk Forecast
Visualization enables instant insight across the portfolio; we see issues immediately. – F500 bank
Asset class by term structure is shown on the floor with one wall providing a geographic rollup, and the other wall showing financial metrics. BHP Billiton, one of the world’s largest resource companies of its kind, uses a diversified portfolio strategy to manage its assets. Oculus enterprise risk visualizations create and assess what-if scenarios such as potential acquisitions and their impact on short term risk. This tool for senior and executive management won the prestigious “Innovation of the Year” from Energy Risk magazine.

Asset Mix Demo
This simple financial visualization demo illustrates multi-attribute analysis and trade-offs for a small portfolio of stocks. Stocks are shown in three dimensions positioned by performance (% Change) and risk (Volatility), with holdings size reflected in the vertical axis. The demo automatically animates through industry sectors showing variance in risk and return, revealing patterns and outliers to inform decision making.

Increase Return on Risk
Risk is dynamic and can change quickly when there are hundreds of transactions every day. Rapid understanding is a challenge for managers, where the dimensions of risk, such as portfolio, term, product, geography, counter party, liquidity, and volatility, are many. Using interactive visualizations to show aspects of Value at Risk (VaR), how VaR relates to P+L and limits and how VaR is distributed, can help to better manage risk when millions can be at stake.
