Visuals to Narrate, Explain and Discuss

Interactive visualization provides the means for an analyst to discover stories in data. It is also highly effective in sharing those stories with others. Capturing and narrating observations enables the expert analyst to communicate and validate conclusions with a broader audience. Narrative sequences communicate analysis, enabling others to understand, to see for themselves, and to contribute.

Live Web 2.0 Visualization and Analysis

Our Aperture visualization framework interleaves richly layered Web 2.0 visualization with narrative explanation. Story threads emerge as you interactively drill-down to explore deeper underlying factors and scenarios. Unlike paper reports, live graphic presentations are up-to-date with the latest data and commentary.

Narrative Visualization in GeoTime

Capturing and Narrating Insights

GeoTime provides integrated tools for the user to record insights visually on discovery and annotate them. For example the viewer may bookmark observed anomalies or patterns, then refer and link them in a linear narrative. The result can be shared with others who can then simply step through the analysis and see evidence visually.

Narration Example

(requires WebGL-enabled browser, such as Chrome or Firefox)
Infographics excel at telling simple stories with graphics. For larger datasets, narrative makes knowledge more accessible by explaining concepts, pointing out key insights and encouraging interactive exploration of the data. In this experimental WebGL demo, a sphere provides a novel view of US Consumer Price Index data while the narrator incrementally steps the viewer through the story to reveal aspects of the data.
